When you think of backup software, you probably think of your computers crashing and you losing all of your data. But did you ever think that there is a myriad of reasons why you need a backup, other than just mechanical error?
When you stop to imagine how and why you could lose some or all of your data, it starts to get a little scary. First of all, everyone knows the feeling of seeing the “Black Screen of Death”, when your computer will no longer boot. For years, this sight has brought terror to the lives of IT professionals around the world. Sometimes this is because the mother board or the hard drive has died, other times it could be because an electrical current blew out a part of the computer.
Sometimes, good old Mother Nature is at fault. A flood, a fire, a hurricane, an earthquake, and any number of natural events can bring an end to your computers and your servers. Without backup software in place, you may never recover. Many small companies, in particular, completely go under when their businesses are hit by something like this.
But let’s not forget about human nature. Disgruntled employees, competitors, bored hackers – they can all get into your system and erase your data. If you think your computer firewall is foolproof, then think again. They wouldn’t make backup software if that were true.
In today’s world, where almost every computer is essentially connected to each other, you have to be particularly vigilant when it comes to the safety of your data. Whether it is your customers’ information or your own files that you are protecting, without software in place to regularly back it up, you could find yourself in big trouble if somehow your data disappears one day.
